Simply Stylist NY 2014

Nov 9, 2014

This post is long overdue, and I have no excuse except the lame one of "I got busy with work."

Anyhoo, a couple weekends ago, I attended the Simply Stylist conference at the beautiful Park Central New York hotel with the goal of meeting like-minded people in fashion and getting inspired. It was my first time attending, and I definitely enjoyed meeting new people from different corners of the fashion and beauty industry. I also loved hearing the different speakers give pearls of wisdom and speak candidly about their own successes, challenges, and advice for reaching your goals - whether it be in blogging, social media, styling, or entrepreneurship.

Check out the highlights below!
What I wore:
Dress: Monica Rose x Lovers + Friends "Keaton" tuxedo dress (similar here and here)
Bag: Botkier "Leroy" crossbody bag (sold out, but here is the satchel version)
Boots: Stuart Weitzman (similar here and here)
 Brunch time!
Umm, I knew it was going to be a great day when I met Catt Sadler during brunch. Her jumpsuit is from Cameo, and I kind of died inside because it was both a fashion and starstruck moment.
I snagged this picture of the back details.
Jennifer Norman, VP of Marketing for a natural skincare brand, derma|e. She was so incredibly nice (as was everyone I met!), and also spoke on how to differentiate yourself and your brand. Having been in the beauty industry for much of her career, she saw a lot of "me too-ism" and emphasized that it is important to stand out. Find out what from your past that was an "ah-hah" moment for you and harness that to differentiate yourself from the crowd.
Jamie Chung, speaking about her acting career and her own fashion blog, What the Chung. She was so funny and sweet; especially when she was talking about how her friends made fun of her that her blog name was "so Asian."
Joe Zee, talking very candidly about his career as well. His stories were so inspiring; the fact that people said to him "you don't have a future in magazines" and he clearly has pioneered so much in the magazine and fashion industry, and now is able to speak to millions on the Yahoo platform. He also spoke about the importance of hustling; he said he hustled so much in the earlier years of his career, but he was always so grateful and happy to be doing what he was doing, that no job was too small or too big.

Pretty much the closest I could get to Jamie Chung. Couldn't snag my own picture with her :(

Another surreal moment meeting Jacey from Damsel in Dior! I loved seeing her speak on the panel as well. When she first started blogging, she definitely had a game plan in mind and approached her blog as a business. My takeaway is that whatever it is that you're interested in doing, have a plan and strategy.

Hope you have a good rest of the weekend! If you like what I wore, you can shop similar items below :)
